Why Penng 1.0 Is Now R499

Two phones showing Penng: last night's sleep and the Trends chart of hours slept against hours needed.

The Penng 1.0 band now costs R499. It used to cost R1,950. That is 74% off, and there are only 500 bands at this price.

This post explains what changed, why we did it, and what it means for you.

What changed

  • Penng 1.0 band: R499, was R1,950.
  • Membership included: 3 months of Penng membership come with the band.
  • After that: R89 a month or R890 a year.
  • Shipping: a flat R49 per order. South Africa only. It is added at checkout.
  • Guarantee: 30 days money-back if you buy.
  • Trial: 7 days free in the app.

There are no discount codes any more. The price is the price.

Why we did it

Two reasons, and both are simple.

First, Penng 2.0 is coming. We want to clear the last 500 Penng 1.0 bands before it arrives. We would rather these bands be worn than sit in a box.

Second, Penng is now a membership. The value is in the app: sleep, recovery, training and food, in one place. The band is the low-cost way in.

What it means for existing members

Nothing changes for you. Membership is still R89 a month or R890 a year. Your price has not moved.

If you paid R1,950 for your band

We know this is the part that matters most to early buyers. You keep the membership that came with your band. Nothing is taken away from you.

Who should buy what

Buy the Penng 1.0 band (R499) if you want sleep, recovery and training data without a screen on your wrist, and you live in South Africa. It is the cheapest way to start, and it includes 3 months of membership.

Use the app only (R89 a month) if you already wear something that feeds Apple Health or Health Connect. You get the Penng app and membership without a band. In South Africa this is R89 a month. Outside South Africa it is US$5 a month.

Wait for Penng 2.0 if you want the newest hardware and are happy to wait. Penng 2.0 is not on sale yet. You can join the waitlist. The launch price is R950 in South Africa (50% off, was R1,900) and US$60 outside South Africa.

Outside South Africa: we only ship bands to South Africa for now. You can join the band waitlist, or use the app with Apple Health or Health Connect.

What the band does

Penng 1.0 is a screen-free fitness band: 40 g, no display and 21+ days of battery. It reads your heart and your movement around the clock, and the app turns that into your sleep, your recovery and a plain view of how ready you are to train. If you want to know more first, read our guide to screen-free fitness trackers.

Is 500 really the limit?

Yes. When the 500 Penng 1.0 bands are gone, this price is gone with them.
