WHOOP's price in South Africa
WHOOP's South African store shows every price in US dollars, and WHOOP's help centre confirms that South African memberships are charged in US dollars. There is no separate device price, because the WHOOP device comes with the membership.
| Membership | What arrives in the box | Annual plan | Annual plan in rand* |
|---|---|---|---|
| WHOOP One | WHOOP 5.0, wired Basic Charger, CoreKnit band | US$199 | about R3,280 |
| WHOOP Peak | WHOOP 5.0, Wireless PowerPack, SuperKnit band | US$239 | about R3,940 |
| WHOOP Life | WHOOP MG, Wireless PowerPack, SuperKnit Luxe band | US$359 | about R5,910 |
Prices are from WHOOP's South African plan pages for One, Peak and Life, checked on 14 October 2026 and again on 15 October 2026.
*The rand amounts are a currency conversion, not a WHOOP price. They use the European Central Bank reference rate for 14 October 2026 (about R16.47 to the US dollar). Your bank's rate and card fees will differ.
Multi-year plans: on 15 October 2026 the 2-year price, paid upfront, differed between visits to WHOOP's South African store (One US$259 or US$299, Peak US$349 or US$399, Life US$519 or US$599), and some visits also offered a 5-year plan for Peak (US$799) and Life (US$1,199). Check the store for the price you are offered.
What else to know about the price:
- Shipping and tax. Prices exclude local taxes. Shipping and tax are calculated at checkout, and customs or the courier may request additional payment before delivery. We didn't place an order, so we can't tell you the exact amounts.
- Customs and VAT. WHOOP's shipping page says duties, taxes or customs fees may apply and that your government sets them. South Africa's VAT rate is 15%, and SARS explains how VAT on imported goods is worked out.
- There's no monthly plan when you join. The South African store offers an annual plan, a 2-year plan and a Family Plan, and on some visits a 5-year plan for Peak and Life. WHOOP's pricing help page says monthly billing is only for some members who have finished a 12-month commitment, and that it varies by location.
- It renews automatically. The 2-year plan renews as an annual membership at the annual price unless you cancel.
- Family Plan: 2 to 6 people on one annual bill, all on the same tier. The store lists it from US$199 a person for One and Peak, and from US$299 a person for Life.
What the WHOOP membership includes
Every tier includes the WHOOP app, 24/7 support and a lifetime warranty. WHOOP's store says the warranty applies "as long as you purchased directly through WHOOP and have an active membership". Both devices, WHOOP 5.0 and WHOOP MG, last up to 14+ days on a charge. Both are IP68 water-resistant to 10 metres, which WHOOP says is safe for swim workouts.
From the South African store:
- WHOOP One: sleep, strain and recovery insights, personalised coaching, VO2 max and heart-rate zones, and Women's Hormonal Insights.
- WHOOP Peak: everything in One, plus Healthspan and Pace of Aging, Health Monitor with health alerts, and a real-time Stress Monitor.
- WHOOP Life: everything in Peak, on the WHOOP MG device, plus Blood Pressure Insights (WHOOP says this is a wellness feature and "not a medical device").
Not available in South Africa: WHOOP Life's ECG readings and Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications. The South African store says these "are currently unavailable in your region", and South Africa isn't on WHOOP's list of countries where they work.
According to WHOOP's store FAQ, you can upgrade at any time and pay a prorated amount for your new membership. A downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.
Can you use WHOOP without a subscription?
No. WHOOP needs an active membership to track. WHOOP's cancellation page says:
- "Once your membership has ended, WHOOP will no longer collect, upload, or analyze your biometric data."
- "You will be able to view your past data, but new data will not be recorded after cancellation."
- You can keep using WHOOP until the last day of the term you paid for.
Instead of cancelling, you can pause for up to 3 months if you are outside a commitment period and haven't paused in the last 12 months. Nothing is uploaded and you aren't billed while you're paused. WHOOP keeps your baseline if you come back within 90 days.
WHOOP explains the model in its own words: the membership "provides a lower-cost way for customers to try the most advanced wearable technology without a high upfront cost."
Where to buy WHOOP in South Africa
From WHOOP directly. Go to join.whoop.com, which sends you to the store for your location. WHOOP ships to South Africa with DHL / DHL Express in an estimated 7 to 14 business days, and it doesn't deliver to PO Boxes. Within 30 days of delivery you can cancel and return the device for "a full refund minus the cost of shipping".
Local shops. WHOOP's current authorised-retailer list (last published 14 October 2026) names no South African shop. Some South African sellers list WHOOP anyway. These are third-party sellers, not WHOOP:
| Seller (third-party) | What the listing says | Listed price |
|---|---|---|
| Takealot marketplace (main seller: Wits stationers and gifts) | WHOOP 5.0 with a 12-month WHOOP One membership; "Ships in 5 - 7 work days" | R6,300 on 15 October 2026 |
| Connected Devices | WHOOP 5.0, One, 12 months; "Special Import" with a 12-month warranty | R5,499; checked 14 and 15 October 2026 |
| PeakTrack | Listing titled "WHOOP 5.0", with One, Peak and Life options and a 12-month membership; "Taxes included" | Listed prices: One R4,199, Peak R4,938, Life R7,159; all marked sold out/unavailable; checked 14 and 15 October 2026 |
Before you buy from a local seller, ask who handles warranty claims and returns. WHOOP's lifetime warranty wording covers devices bought directly from WHOOP. Once the included months run out, you need a WHOOP membership to keep tracking.

Penng
Penng is a South African health app with an optional screen-free band. Like WHOOP, it is a paid membership, not subscription-free.
- With the Penng 1.0 band: R499 on clearance, which includes 3 months of membership. After that it's R89/month or R890/year, paid in the app. Shipping is a flat R49, and it ships in South Africa only (pricing). That makes the first year R1,349 if you pay monthly after the 3 included months.
- With your own watch: R89/month with a 7-day free trial in the app. Penng reads your data through Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. Its compatibility page lists Apple Watch, Garmin, Oura Ring (iPhone), Fitbit (Android) and Samsung Galaxy Watch. WHOOP isn't on that list.
- The band: no screen, 40 g, 21+ days of battery. It's rated 1 ATM: fine for rain and splashes, but not for swimming (Penng's product facts). WHOOP is the better fit if you want to swim with it.
- What else: AI food logging (photo, barcode or text), plans, habits and the coach work in the app even without a wearable (pricing). Penng is not a medical device (Penng's product facts).
- Outside South Africa: US$5/month with your own wearable (Penng's product facts).
Garmin and Apple Watch
If you'd rather have a screen, Garmin and Apple make smartwatches that track sleep and workouts.
- Garmin: Garmin says the Garmin Connect app's existing features stay free. Garmin Connect+ is optional and costs R149 a month or R1,499 a year in South Africa. Garmin South Africa lists the Forerunner 70/170 from R5,499 and the vívoactive 6 at R6,499. Garmin also sells a screen-free band, the CIRQA Smart Band, at R4,499 with "no subscription required". On CIRQA, Garmin Coach training plans and the workout library need the paid plan.
- Apple Watch: Apple says Apple Watch Series 11, SE 3 and Ultra 3 require an iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26 or later. Apple's South African site doesn't list prices, so check current price with a local retailer.
Oura Ring
Oura's current ring is the Oura Ring 5, from US$399 on Oura's own store. Oura needs a membership for most features. Without one, Oura says you only see your three daily scores and basic information. Oura lists South Africa as a retailer-only country, and its authorised South African reseller is Vitality. Check the local price and membership cost with them.
Screen-free bands: Amazfit Helio Strap and Polar Loop
- Amazfit Helio Strap: screen-free, and Amazfit says it doesn't require a subscription. An optional Zepp Aura premium plan is available. It's US$99.99 on Amazfit's US store. We did not find a South African storefront or official rand price in Amazfit's region selector; check local sellers.
- Polar Loop: Polar calls it "a screen-free, subscription-free fitness band". It's R3,699.90 on Polar's South African store with free shipping.

On 14 October 2026, WHOOP's South African store charged US$199 a year for WHOOP One, US$239 for WHOOP Peak and US$359 for WHOOP Life, with the device included. Prices exclude local taxes. Yes. WHOOP ships to South Africa with DHL and estimates delivery at 7 to 14 business days. It does not deliver to PO Boxes.
How much is the WHOOP subscription per month?
WHOOP's South African store has no monthly plan when you join. The annual plans (US$199, US$239 or US$359 a year) work out to about US$17 to US$30 a month. Multi-year plans paid upfront bring the monthly equivalent lower: on 15 October 2026, WHOOP showed from about US$11 a month.
Can you use WHOOP without a subscription?
No. WHOOP says that once your membership ends it stops collecting, uploading and analysing your data. You can still view your past data.
Where can I buy WHOOP in South Africa?
You can buy directly from WHOOP at join.whoop.com, which opens its South African store. WHOOP's current authorised-retailer list names no South African shop, so local sellers such as Takealot marketplace sellers are third parties. Ask them who handles warranty and returns.
What are the alternatives to WHOOP in South Africa?
Screen-free options include the Penng 1.0 band (R499 with 3 months of membership, then R89 a month), the Polar Loop (R3,699.90, no subscription) and Garmin's CIRQA Smart Band (R4,499).
